Weekly digest report to track your tasks and milestones. Your personal notification settings.
As you may know we have been supporting for some time now the ability to add a list of tasks from an excel spreadsheet. This is quite common in project management especially when one of the project management has created a task list when they are in offline mode. Sharing tasks that are actually embedded in an Excel spreadsheet can be counter-productive if you are using email to share your list. There is no ability to track due dates, versions and attached files(if you are already using GroupCamp Project for online projects, this will probably seem obvious to you).
To import a task list, click on the import link in the Tasks home screen, you will be presented with two options, 1) importing a task list from another project 2) importing from a spreadsheet.
We are happy to announce that our export function is available for a project. Administrators can now, in the Admin section, under the 'Project' tab export a project. An export file with all the project data is generated and the administrator is notified by email when the file is ready for download.
The form for adding a new task has a new design. You can now add members of your project as followers of a task and add a comment along the way before submitting your task.
Adding a first comment when creating a task is a feature requested by many of our customers. A typical use case is the ability to describe a task and assign it to someone, then use the comment field to direct a message to followers of the task. The screenshot below shows a good example of such a case.
You can now assign a task to all members of a company present in a project.
All the users of the company will then receive an email with the assigned task. In that particular case, the task will be highlighted in green if you are a member of the assigned company.
Why would you assign a task to a company?
In projects involving multiple companies, it is often helpful to assign a task to one of the companies. If you do not know to whom to assign the task but you want every user of the company to be aware of the action items.
We are introducing Types in Tasks to allow customers to cross reference tasks across task lists. This gives project leaders a different perspective on their projects. Going beyond that, if you are using types with time estimates, you can have a view of your tasks listed by type with a sum of the time estimates for each type.
For examples of how to use Types read the following article in our FAQ
You are probably using Timelog to enter records for the time spent on your assigned tasks. What was missing until now was the ability to plan ahead by estimating the time for each task. If your times estimates are accurate, setting milestones for your project will also be more accurate. The other benefit is that if the hours spent are billable, then time estimates will help you determine the right pricing.

Customers often expressed how they cannot add a task with a first comment attached to it. This is now available. One typical example is described below : John, the Project manager can assign a task to someone and send a notification to James and Madeleine saying they should be monitoring this.
